Revealed: Highlights from the FM Courtis Collection

5 November 2012 – 8 February 2013
A selection of works from the FM Courtis Collection will travel from La Trobe University Bendigo Campus to be exhibited at LUMA | La Trobe University Museum of Art, on the Melbourne campus.
The exhibition celebrates the scope of the FM Courtis Collection with an emphasis on the evolution of Australian art throughout the 19th and 20th centuries. Beginning with the documentary styled endeavours of the early colonial artists the exhibition surveys impressions of our unique landscape and the exploration of national identity by artists such as Eugene Von Guerard and Tom Roberts. Isolated from the global art market, artists proved to be resourceful, inventive and somewhat inward looking as they sought to define themselves and address the question ‘what does it mean to be Australian?’.
