The University of Melbourne’s Faculty of Science, in partnership with Rock Art Australia (RAA), is hosting a public lecture which follows Dr Damien Finch’s research journey to identify the ages of some of Australia’s oldest rock paintings.
The recent findings from Damien’s work on Balanggarra Country have been the subject of global media attention. His mud wasp nest dating technique recently confirmed that a two metre long rock painting of a kangaroo deep in a northeast Kimberley rock shelter was painted around 17,300 years ago dating back more than 600 generations.
Damien is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the School of Earth Sciences and a member of the ARC and RAA-funded Rock Art Dating project. More information on this research can be found in this Pursuit article.
