PhotoAccess is delighted to invite ACT and region emerging arts writers to apply for inclusion in our VIEW2022 project.

Eligible writers are invited to submit proposals via the form on the PhotoAccess website by midnight of Wednesday 15 December 2021.

Based at the Manuka Arts Centre in Canberra, PhotoAccess is a leading Australian centre for contemporary photography, film-making and media arts. We are an experienced non-profit visual arts organisation, presenting each year a dynamic program encompassing exhibitions, artist residencies, workshops, events and publications.

Each year, our flagship Huw Davies Gallery program commences with VIEW, a curated award exhibition showcasing emerging and re-emerging photo-media artists and photographers from the ACT and surrounding regions. This exciting initiative presents fresh approaches to photographic practice, challenges audiences with innovative work exploring contemporary social, political and environmental questions, as well as experimental aesthetic and technical approaches, and provides an opportunity for our community to discover future stars in photographic practice.

VIEW2022 will open in PhotoAccess’ Huw Davies Gallery and on PhotoAccess’ Online Gallery on Thursday 3 February, 2022 and close on Saturday, 5 March, 2022.

VIEW2022 will be accompanied by a substantial, full-colour catalogue (available printed and online) featuring a major essay by an early career ACT and regions arts writer. This essay will contextualise and reflect on the exhibition and displayed works, considering in a fresh, perhaps individual and experimental, way how they illuminate contemporary fine art photographic practice, demonstrate innovation and imagination in the arts and engage cultural challenges and possibilities. The VIEW2022 catalogue essay will stand as an original work inviting exhibition audiences to enjoy and explore the exhibition, while also contributing to documenting the vibrant ACT and region’s photo-media arts community.

PhotoAccess is now calling for expressions of interest for early career writers to contribute to VIEW2022 through producing a catalogue essay of approximately 2000 words.
