Skill Sharing Events | Ann Shaftel on the care and conservation of Buddhist thangkas

The Grimwade Centre at the University of Melbourne is very pleased two present two events on the care and conservation of Buddhist thangkas.

The two activities are with Ann Shaftel, an international thangka specialist who is visiting Melbourne for specialist skills sharing. The sessions are open to collectors, community members, curators and conservators alike.

EVENT 1

Grimwade Conservation Masterclass: Thangkas with Ann Shaftel

When: Sunday 31 July 2022

Cost: $60 for half day, $190 for full day.

EVENT 2

Grimwade Conservation Immersion: Thangkas with Ann Shaftel

When: 3 days, Monday 1^st to Wednesday 3^rd August 2022, 9am to 5pm daily. Also available is the option to attend site visits on 4^th and 5^th August around Victoria.

Ann Shaftel is a global leader in the field of thangka conservation. She is a renowned teacher of international workshops on the conservation of Buddhist treasures and has shared her knowledge throughout the US, Canada, Europe, Bhutan, Nepal, India and China. She is a Fellow of the International Institute for Conservation and the American Institute for Conservation, and a member of the Canadian Association of Professional Conservators, ICOM and ICOMOS. Since 1970, Ann has worked in the conservation of Buddhist art in monasteries, Dharma centres, museums, universities, and communities. Her work is referenced by international scholars and advised and blessed by Buddhist teachers.
