Dr Shawn Sobers is Professor of Cultural Interdisciplinary Practice at the University of the West of England (UWE). He is a member of “We are Bristol History Commission” which was set up in 2020 in response to the toppling of the statue of Edward Colston, 17th Century English merchant, slave trader and member of parliament.
Shawn will speak about his work on the Commission, the re-display of the Colston sculpture and ideas and issues around public monuments and contested culture.
