Applications are now open local and international artists for the Box Hill Community Arts Centre (BHCAC) Artist in Residence Program 2017.  Artists can nominate the duration of the residency being from 1 – 12 months from January – December, 2018.

UPDATED Applications close 26 June 28th July, 2017.

Applications will be accepted from both local and international artists for the BHCAC Artist in Residence Program 2018.  Artists can nominate the duration of the residency being from 1 – 12 months from January – December, 2018.

The AIR studio dimensions are 4.3 metres x 3.3 metres – workspace and 4 metres x 3.4 metres – storage area. We also have other art rooms that can be utilised.

We are able to accept artists using most types of mediums. BHCAC has a large ceramics studio with three kilns –  2 gas and one electric – which are fired by our kiln technician, six pottery wheels and everything required for making ceramics.  We are fully equipped with art tools and materials and have all the usual equipment required for visual arts practice such as a print press, cutting tools, easels, brushes etc.

There is no accommodation with the residency – this will need to be arranged by the artist (however we will be able to make suggestions of suitable and affordable accommodation e.g. homestays). There is no cost to the artist for the residency. BHCAC will not be able to assist with any artists´ costs – apart from materials for any projects which will need to be negotiated.

All of our tutors are practising artists – we have 5 payroll tutors and over 50 contract tutors.  Staff will assist the artist to connect with other tutors and with other art centres within our networks. During the residency we expect that the artist interact with the community in some way as detailed in the Application Form.

BHCAC is also a home base for nearly 50 community groups – mainly visual arts, craft and performing groups who upon request would welcome visitors to their meetings/workshops.

Application Form is below and all applications will be assessed by BHCAC staff in September/October 2017 as to the suitability and proposed timing and fit into the BHCAC AIR program.
