JOHN MEADE
is a Melbourne based artist who graduated from the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne, in 1994. His recent solo exhibitions include, Set Pieces (2016) and Autumn 2014, both at Sutton Gallery Melbourne. Through 2010/2011, a NETS survey exhibition curated by Zara Stanhope, Objects to Live By: The Art of John Meade, toured six regional and city public galleries throughout Australia. Other solo exhibitions include, The Desultory Arabesque (2012), Show Business (2009) and Aftermath (2005), all at Sutton Gallery Melbourne; Incident in the Museum 2 (2004), at the Monash University Museum of Art, Melbourne, and Propulsion (2001), at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney and the Australian Centre for Contemporary Art, Melbourne.Selected group exhibitions include the 2017 Redlands Konica Minolta Art Prize, curated by Callum Morton, National Art School, Sydney; A Billion Bucks (2016), curated by Justin Hinder and Charlotte Cornish, The Honeymoon Suite, Melbourne; The Gathering ll, A Survey of Australian Sculpture (2014), Wangaratta Art Gallery, Victoria; SEXES (2012), curated by Jeff Khan, Performance Space, Sydney; Adventures with Form in Space, 4th Balnaves Sculpture Project (2006), curated by Wayne Tunnicliffe, Art Gallery of NSW, Sydney, and 21st Century Modern, Adelaide Biennial of Australian Art (2006), curated by Linda Michael, Art Gallery of South Australia. Outdoor sculpture commissions include Everyday Devotional (2017) for the Sunland Group, Abian Botanic Gardens, Brisbane; Riverside Corolla (2011) for Dexus at Southbank, Melbourne; Aqualung (2006), for Lend Lease at Victoria Harbour, Docklands, Melbourne; and Mean Yellow, at the Victorian Arts Centre forecourt for the Melbourne Festival (2000).In 2003, he was awarded the Anne & Gordon Samstag International Visual Art Scholarship. He has been the recipient of awards and grants from The Australia Council, Cinemedia, Creative Victoria, Asialink, and the Besen Family Foundation. His academic achievements include the completion of a PhD from Monash University (to be conferred in May 2018), an MA in Studio Art from New York University (2004), and an MA by research from RMIT University (2000). His sculpture is found in the collections of the Australian Catholic University, Melbourne; Heide Museum of Art, Melbourne; Monash University Museum of Art, Melbourne; Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney; and, the National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne.
